First Company is a slang term for the group of player characters in the game (see Characters) and also as a designation for one unit in the game. Historically a "Company" of commandos in 1940 was composed of two "Platoons" each of around 25 commandos and one weapons platoon with several mortar and medium machine gun crews. At this point in the war two commando companies formed a "Battalion."

In this game the 5th Special Service Battalion (a historical unit) was composed of 1st and 2nd Companies, has been assigned to the Special Operations Executive, Alternate Threats Section. Second Company suffered heavy losses when the Germans drove Britain out of Greece in April 1941.  The balance of Second company was melded into First Company to bring it up to strength after losses at Aswan Dam.
